Sunderland International Air Show Alnwick Castle (Harry Potter)
|
Welcome to the North East of England. Alnwick Castle (of Harry Potter fame). Next to Windsor Castle, Alnwick Castle is the largest inhabited castle in England. The ancestral home of the Duke of Northumberland since the 13th century, the castle was built probably during the 11th century. Alnwick Castle is today perhaps best known as the place where Harry Potter - written by British author J. K. Rowling - was filmed. Alnwick Castle became Hogwarts in the first two of the Harry Potter films. Less well known is that Alnwick Castle was also used as a film location for the television series Blackadder and the film Elizabeth. The castle and it's grounds are totally surrounded by a nine mile wall, in what is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Alnwick Castle is approximately 80 miles south of Edinburgh, and 30 miles north of Newcastle, and is well worth a visit. Click on any thumbnail t see it in high resolution.
