Sunderland International Air Show Marsden Rock
|
Welcome to the North East of England. Marsden Rock in Sunderland. Marsden Rock is situated on the coast road between the towns of Marsden and South Shields in Tyne and Wear, in the North East of England. There were once two rocks joined by an arch, but the arch collapsed in 1996, thus destroying this renowned rock feature. A year later, the remnants of the collapsed rock were declared to be dangerous, and was destroyed. Looking down on Marsden Rock from up above, and seeing all the Gulls, Kittiwakes and Cormorants nesting there, you are sadly reminded by the flowers that are tied to a pole there that this is a popular place for people to commit suicide - if you are ever in despair please stop and think how precious life is, and that tomorrow WILL be a different day. The lift close by takes you down to the beach front, via Smuggler Jack's seafood restaurant and bar. It was so pleasant having a meal and a drink there as we watched the odd boat sailing by, and sweetheart's passing on the beach. Marsden Rock stands at over 100 feet high, and we spent a lovely couple of hours taking in the lovely scenery thereabouts.
